Under the influence was the title of the presentation that was assigned to us from our Research Skill’s tutor.
The brief was to research, identify and collate visual material that is both inspirational and influential to us and to our design approaches. We had to present one printed book, one website or blog, one application and 1 identity(Logo)
Below you are able to see which four outcomes i chose to talk about:
The book that i find interesting has the title “The shape we are in”.It was published at the 26th of June 2014 from Guardian Books and was written by Sarah Boseley, the Guardian’s award winning health editor. In the book Sara argues that it’s time to understand the complex reality of what makes us fat and she states that in Britain the 2/3rd of the people are overweight. In my opinion this is an issue that worries a lot of people in nowadays because many of us we have know idea what is good and what is bad for our health.
However, The reason that I chose the book is for the smart design of the cover. On the cover you are all able to recognize a package with donuts; but instead of showing the information and nutritional details on the label, you can see there what the book is about and what are the contexts.
Pinterest is a web which allows users to collect, discover, share, and save images on boards that they can put in different categories. Also, they can follow other users’ boards with similar tastes. The evolution of Pinterest is based on the shared interest of its users and relies on its members to produce the content.
For me Pinterest is a very useful tool because it helps me to find useful sources for my design practice.
The site was founded by Ben Silbermann, Paul Sciarra and Evan Sharp.
Development of Pinterest began in December 2009, and the site launched as a closed beta in March 2010.
Nine months after the launch the website had 10,000 users. Silbermann and a few programmers operated the site out of a small apartment until the summer of 2011.
On 16 August 2011, Time magazine listed Pinterest in its “50 Best Websites of 2011” article.
Fooducate is a personal grocery advisor, helping people make healthy choices. Hemi Weinyarton had the idea to create fooducate after having a lot of trouble as a father to choose from supermarkets what the healthier choice is for his children. The reason that i chose this application is first for its design and second for the useful information that can provide to the user, The design of the application follows few of the 10 principles that were state by Dieter Rams of how a good design should look like. Its simple, provides very useful information to the users and is extremely easy to use.
It was first place winner in the U.S Surgeon in 2012.Moreover once the app for iPhones was released in January 2011, Apple selected it as the Best app in Health and Fitness section.
